STUDY 16: TRIALS

In many respects, the Christian life is a life of testing. God, through adverse situations, purifies and takes out of our lives those things that are not pleasing to Him. Trials are to be expected but should never be viewed as punishment.

1.  Circle keywords or phrases in the following Scriptures.

Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. James 1:2-4 (NIV)

Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. Romans 5:3,4 (NIV)

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28 (NIV)

The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised." But he knows the way that I take; when he has tested me, I will come forth as gold. Job 1:21b and 23:10 (NIV)

We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. 2 Corinthians 4:8,9 (NIV)

Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 2 Corinthians 4:16,17 (NIV)

2.  What do we learn about the value of Trials in:
